University Campus Bohunice
The University Campus at Bohunice is one of the most extensive investments in educational facilities in Central Europe in recent years. The modern educational and research and development centre of Masaryk University gradually grew on an area of 42 hectares, providing facilities for five thousand students and thousands of educators and researchers from the Medical Faculty, biological and chemical fields of the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Sports Studies. The total cost of the construction was more than 5 billion CZK.
Construction of the campus is divided into several stages. The construction of the yellow stage (a complex for the Faculty of Sports Studies) was launched in autumn 2007 and was completed in July 2009. In August 2009, the Faculty of Sports Studies moved into the new premises and the 7th October 2009 saw the inauguration of the new Faculty of Sports Studies complex. Thanks to the construction of buildings A33 and A34 the Faculty of Sports Sciences gained new premises with a total floor space of 10,610 m2, of which 2005 m2 are sports halls.
The campus provides a complex for the three faculties: Medicine, Science and the Faculty of Sports Studies. The heart of the space devoted to faculties is made up of study rooms, laboratories, specialised workplaces and gyms.
The youngest of the faculties – the Faculty of Sports Studies - moved to the campus in autumn 2009. All the important parts of it are located there, from the Dean's Office through the study department to all seven departments. Within their classes, students use the sports hall for ball games, the sports hall for martial arts, the sports gymnasiums, a fitness gym and seminar and lecture rooms.
