Comparative Data about Police for the European Union Research Collected by Experts from FSpS

It is almost ten years since Czech police introduced it’s motto „To help and to protect“. It refers to what police should do for all citizens. However, recent research of Faculty of Sports studies shows that the public opinions about police are not very positive. And even the opinion amongst policemen themselves is not identical.

The experts from FSpS collected data regarding different police activities as a part of Comparative Police Studies in the EU as one of ten participating countries. Researchers were able to compare how this part of integrated rescue system works for example when it comes to sharing information, inner working or even self-concept of its members. What they found is very specific in many ways.

For instance, the usage of police coercion In Czech Republic has practically doubled between 2010 and 2016. And according to Martin Bugala, one of the scientists, it would be very difficult to explain why are people getting more and more often in conflict with the police forces.
