Soukup won the first medal for the Czech Republic in biathlon

The Czechs celebrated bronze medal on the first day of Olympic Games. Biathlete Jaroslav Soukup, a graduate of the Faculty of Sports Studies, finished third in the 10 km sprint.

Soukup won the first-ever Czech medal in biathlon. "It's a fantastic feeling; it’s even hard to talk. I still cannot believe it," he said after the race in an interview for the Czech television.

Until now the biggest success of the Czech biathlon was the fourth place of Ivan Masařík in Nagano 1998.
