Health support laboratory

The Health Support Laboratory provides professional services to the general public interested in a healthy lifestyle and expertise to recreational and competitive athletes of all ages in nutrition and supplementation.

The workplace focuses on nutritional consultation, which is accompanied by the related diagnostic devices. Examinations are carried out by the academic staff members of the Department of Health Support and doctoral students equipped with practical experience and in line with current scientific knowledge.

Nutritional counseling is focused on the analysis of nutritional status, eating habits, identifying the main dietary problems, setting therapeutic goals, education for orientation in food, essential nutrients and drinking regime. Emphasis is placed on the preventive aspect of nutrition. The laboratory provides expert consultation to interested parties on the prevention of lifestyle diseases (obesity, cardiovascular disease) and to patients with certain diseases (obesity, excess weight, eating disorders, diabetes, dyslipidemia, oncological diseases, food allergies, intolerance). The professional software NutriPro, which monitors up to 79 key nutrients in detail, is used to provide a detailed analysis. It is thus possible to accurately detect the rate of implementation of nutritional doses.

The staff of the Health Support Laboratory are specialists in the area of nutrition in sport - they provide expert advice to athletes at all performance levels. Consulting is consistent with the training load, performance timing or regeneration. Experts in nutritional supplementation are able to assemble a supplementation plan according to the needs of the client. They also provide expert advice on nutritional supplements, educating clients and professional assessment of the quality level of individual products.

In the context of the overall support of the increase of athletic performance or the performance of individual therapeutic goals (e.g. of body weight regulation) care is given to the selection of appropriate supplements.

Nutritional intervention is followed by instrumental examination of bioelectrical impedance (In Body 230 device) and indirect calorimetry (Cortex Metylyzer 3B). With the In Body 230 device, we find out body composition (total body fat, visceral body fat, muscle mass and other parameters). Using the Cortex Metalyzer 3B, we investigate resting energy expenditure. We are thereby able to determine the individual energy demands of the body. Another service is the examination of the autonomic nervous system. Anthropometric measurements are included in the basic medical history.

Based on the instrumental measurements, we recommend solutions for problems with obesity and other health complications associated with sedentary lifestyles or unilaterally oriented sport.

The Health Support Laboratory staff provides counseling for smoking cessation and overall lifestyle change.
