From Biohacking to Myofascial Training: Our Students Completed an International BIP Programme

In April and May, students of the Faculty of Sports Studies at Masaryk University took part in an international mobility programme within the BIP (Blended Intensive Programme) format. The programme consisted of an online section followed by a five-day on-site stay in Málaga, Spain. Seven bachelor’s and master’s degree students were selected to participate, focusing on topics such as nutrition, biohacking, data work, mental health and the practical application of theoretical knowledge.

The online part of the programme took place throughout April in the form of regular Tuesday sessions. We focused on topics including nutritional biohacking, working with data, breathing exercises and mental health. A key component of this phase was group work on a case study, where we worked with a real patient case involving a specific diagnosis and designed comprehensive intervention programmes aimed at improving the patient’s health condition.

At the beginning of May, we travelled to Málaga, where we took part in a diverse and very intensive programme combining theory with practice. Classes and activities were held in various settings. On the beach, at the university and in sports facilities. Part of the experience also involved adapting to the Spanish daily rhythm, which starts later and continues into the evening, including the traditional siesta. On the very first day, we were welcomed with a shared dinner featuring Spanish specialties, which provided an excellent opportunity to connect with international students.

During practical sessions, we focused, among other topics, on nutrition and biohacking. While engaging in physical activities, we measured heart rate, calculated values under physical load and discussed the real benefits of modern biohacking approaches as well as their limitations, for example when monitoring caloric expenditure. The programme also included myofascial training, familiarisation with sports equipment and visits to sports facilities.

Outdoor activities were another important part of the programme, including surfing and other water sports on the beach, as well as hiking in the natural area of Guadalhorce. Team sports such as volleyball, padel and rugby were also included. In addition, practical workshop-based classes focusing on nutrition enriched the programme, during which we tried preparing homemade sports drinks.

The entire programme concluded with group presentations in which individual teams presented the outcomes of their work. In addition to new professional knowledge, we gained valuable experience in international cooperation, made new contacts and found inspiration for their further studies and future professional practice.
