Masaryk University’s Faculty of Sports Studies organised the unique event the Czech Weightlifting Open 2019 with the Czech Association of University Sports and the Czech Weightlifting Union between 28th and 30th June 2019.  This event created the Individual Open and Team Open international competitions where anyone could enter who wanted to try out weightlifting at a proper competition in front of the public whether as an individual or in their own team with another three competitors of their choice. Moreover, the weightlifting competition was also part of the Czech Academic Championships in Weightlifting for students of Czech universities.  80 contestants from the Czech and Slovak Republics, as well as Italy and Russia, performed on the weightlifting stage in the ball-sports hall, where all the competitions were spread out over 3 days.

In parallel with the weight-lifting competitions, there was also an IWF weight-lifting seminar and a two-day conference on fitness training for strength sports.

The IWF weight-lifting seminar was held under the auspices of the Czech Weightlifting Union, thus guaranteeing the quality of the individual lectures and lecturers.  The seminar was aimed for weightlifting trainers in particular, but was open free of charge to all those interested in the subject.  The trainers had the chance to follow seminars on physiology and how the body works, pacing and planning sports training, methods of training with special weightlifting equipment and the latest from the IWF’s Anti-Doping Policy 2019. Last but not least, trainers were able to try out some of the state-of-.the-art devices at the Sports Faculty, which can diagnose the level that strength is developing, the body composition and assessing balance while doing movements and the pressure points on the soles of the feet while walking.

The two-day conference on fitness training in strength sports was held under the auspices of Masaryk University’s Sports Faculty and the lectures were of a very high calibre.  Tereza Králová and Jan Caha opened the conference and the Sports Faculty’s own Tomáš Hlinský and Jan Caha gave lectures.

It was organised by PhD students from the Department of Athletics, Swimming and Outdoor Sports led by Dr Jan Cacek, Dr Tereza Králová.

We’d like to thank everyone for helping to host this event – it was great!
