Aikido Seminar for the Slovak Blind and Partially Sighted Union
Assoc. Prof. PhDr. Zdenko Reguli, Ph.D., Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Sports Studies, led an aikido seminar for the Slovak Blind and Partially Sighted Union (ÚNSS) in Martin, Slovakia, on the 23rd of August 2025. The event was attended by 13 participants with varying degrees of visual impairment.
In addition to teaching defensive techniques of the martial art aikido, Assoc. Prof. Reguli, assisted by members of the Slovak Society of Aikido Friends, also helped participants develop their tactile perception and spatial orientation skills, which are essential compensations for a limited visual control.
The initiative for the event came from Mgr. Adriana Bražinová, Chair of the Regional Council of ÚNSS in Žilina. This exceptional seminar laid the foundation for the growing cooperation between the Faculty of Sports Studies and ÚNSS, particularly in providing professional training opportunities for students of the Special Education of Security Forces program.
