PhD students presented in Zlín about sleep and nutrition
On February 7, 2025 PhD students Michaela Beníčková and Adam Wagner from our faculty visited the Gymnasium and Language school in Zlín. Their presentation on the topic of sleep, circadian rhythms and sports nutrition was aimed at students from sports classes, physical education teachers and coaches.

The importance of sleep and proper nutrition for athletes
In a modern conference hall with a capacity of over 120 seats the first part of the program lasting 90 minutes focused on the importance of quality sleep and its impact on the body’s recovery. Participants learned how circadian rhythms influence both physical and mental conditioning and why sleep is one of the key factors for a healthy life.
This was followed by a two-hour lecture on sports nutrition, where the principles of proper nutrition for athletes were discussed in detail. The lecture covered the importance of macronutrients the proper timing of meals in relation to athletic performance and the issue of RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport) a topic that receives significant attention at our faculty.
An inspiring meeting and potential future collaboration
The entire morning took place in a very friendly and inspiring atmosphere. The PhD students had the opportunity to engage in discussions with interested gymnasium students who may potentially join our faculty in the future.
The event was held under the patronage of Mgr. Radim Bárta the representative of the school for sports and health education, who became interested in these topics during his visit to our faculty in December, where he participated in the Sports morning for high school students
We would like to thank for the invitation and the excellent organization of the event!
