The Faculty of Sports Studies has altogether 133 elderly people who are actively participating in scientific projects focused on the elderly´s activities. However, because of the pandemic in the Czech Republic the elderly are not able to exercise in our gyms. Due to their age they belong to the endangered group. Therefore they were among the first to have their exercises cancelled. And since there is a considerable number of the elderly who participate in the projects, we came up with an idea of how to keep them physically active.
A team of teachers led by Lenka Svobodová from the Department of Gymnastics and Combatives recorded exercise videos and prepared web pages for our elderly, where they can find instruction videos of how to exercise correctly at home and also to receive advice about nutrition.

Our colleagues Petr Huta and Martin Sebera helped to prepare the video recordings and Martin Sebera also prepared the website. The teachers Lenka Svobodová and Alena Skotáková from the Department of Gymnastics and Combatives worked on the content of these recordings with students Aneta and Emily. Other contributions on the web pages are being prepared by PhD students Andrea Martincová, Marie Crhová, Kateřina Strašilová, Petr Vajda, Tomáš Hlinský and also by the teachers from the Centre of University Sports Zora Svobodová and Alena Pokorná. The web pages will be continuously updated with new video recordings and contributions.

The aim of this activity was primarily to keep the elderly taking exercises with the aid of modern technologies and to be in touch with them even during the time of restrictions on free movement. The creation of the online community has also a social aspect – it helps our elderly to keep in social contact and to overcome this difficult time. The web pages and information are public and can also help other elderly people who can keep in good physical and mental condition by taking regular exercise.

If you have an elderly person at home, please recommend our website and exercises.
