Verification of Evaluation Tools for Motor Activity in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Autism spectrum disorder (PAS) is a neurodevelopmental pervasive multifactorial spectral disorder of unknown etiology in which motor competencies and motor development are also significantly impaired. The growing prevalence in the Czech Republic and worldwide, and the fastest-growing trend of all diagnosed developmental disorders, requires further research in this area. Motor competencies play a key role in the development of children with ASD. The possibility of early diagnosis, evaluation and application of appropriate intervention programs fundamentally affects their quality of life. The use of adequate evaluation techniques is a key starting point.
The aim of the project is to verify internationally used standardized techniques and verify their validity in the context of practice in the Czech Republic, in the Czech language and the Czech socio-cultural environment. The research will be carried out using diagnostic standardized methods for the evaluation of motor competencies - specifically the evaluation of gross motor skills the Test of Gross Motor Development, 3rd edition, with the acquisition of photographs and video recordings from testing, for repeatable analysis and other qualitative evaluations of motor competencies. We assume the inclusion of the population in the age range of 7-10 years from organizations, movements and associations focused specifically on the quality of life of people with PAS, PAS point, z.ú., Czech Movement of Special Olympics, NAUTIS, z.ú. (APLA). The expected number of probands is 30.
The partial goals of the project also include the verification of management, procedures, communication and motivational channels for a very heterogeneous spectrum of a specific population with underlining individual differences. Another results will be manuals, for use especially in the pedagogical environment, in families and in counselling centers, focusing on people with ASD.
We expect that the project will bring new perspectives on motor testing of children with ASD and contribute to the summarization of data and data for the creation of a unique standardized evaluation motor test, targeted for children with ASD aged 7-10 years. We will publish the results in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. The manual will be created for practice, for use especially in the pedagogical environment, in families and in counseling centers, focusing on people with ASD. Their presentation will take place within the workshop.
